This is a vintage 1944 hardcover cookbook with dust jacket ~ Clementine In The Kitchen ~ 228 pages. Written by Samuel Chamberlain under the playful pseudonym Phineas Beck, illustrated with etchings by Samuel Chamberlain and line drawings by Henry Stahlhut, and published by Gourmet Magazine. Copyright 1943, this is the third printing, 1944. From the dust jacket:

"Clementine, the rosy cheeked Burgundian cook so dear to the hearts of Gourmet Magazine readers, was actually the treasure peasant cook of Samuel Chamberlain when he and his family lived in France. When the war clouds gathered she was such an important member of this gourmet family that she could not be left behind."
"Clementine in the Kitchen is a humorous, entertaining tale, a nostalgic picture for lovers of France and new England, plus a practical account of good food which will make you drool as you realize that it is the best adaptation of the French provincial cuisine to American markets and cooking methods"

Book contains an appendix with 100 recipes from Clementine's notebook, Samuel Chamberlain's famous etchings, and Henry Stahlhut's delightful line drawings. Tucked inside were numerous recipe clippings, at least one handwritten recipe, and some recipes typed out on paper (one on tissue paper)... all left exactly as found.

Condition as shown. Dust jacket has significant wear as shown with some edge tears and the top part missing from the front cover... the book is cloth covered and has corner bumps and some bumps to top/bottom of spine, a little fading at the top where the dust jacket was torn away and one mark up there, but overall is in pretty good shape. Pages are tanned but otherwise clean and unmarked, binding secure, overall pretty good condition.
